Final WVUniverse talk of the spring explores imaging black holes with Dimitrios Psaltis

Author:

The final WVUniverse talk of the spring will feature a renowned physicist, Professor Dimitrios Psaltis, who pioneered the development of tests of Einstein's general theory of relativity in strong gravitational fields using observations of black holes and neutron stars in the electromagnetic spectrum.

Psaltis is a Professor in the School of Physics at Georgia Institute of Technology and founding member of the Event Horizon Telescope, the international mm-VLBI (Very Long Baseline Interferometry) experiment that has taken the first picture of a black hole with horizon-scale resolution.

Taking pictures of black holes was once thought impossible. The Event Horizon  Telescope has made it a reality and now lets us place the strongest tests yet on  Einstein's theories in the most extreme environments in the Universe.

Join us as we explore black holes and the future of visual observation and exploration.

WVUniverse is a series of public outreach talks exploring different scientific topics with  an audience of all ages in mind. These talks are free, open to all ages and concl ude with a fun trivia game with a chance to win prizes.

All are welcome to join us in the WVU Planetarium dome for this free and fun talk!
