WVUniverse presents Backyard Radio Astronomy

Author:

WVUniverse presents the next talk, "Backyard Radio Astronomy".

This month's talk will feature Professor Kevin Bandura, of the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University. He is also a researcher in the Center for Gravitational Waves and Cosmology.

Bandura has done extensive work in the area of radio astronomy, most notably the CHIME, HIRAX, and projects at the Green Bank Observatory.

In this month's talk, you will hear and learn how to build your own small radio telescope.  Then make your own radio observations of our Milky Way galaxy to show that we need extra matter we can't see, or 'Dark Matter' to explain those observations.

WVUniverse is a series of public outreach talks exploring different scientific topics with an audience of all ages in mind. These talks are free, open to all and conclude with a fun trivia game with a chance to win prizes.

All are welcome to join us in the WVU Planetarium dome for this free and fun talk!
