Jacob studies the effects of scintillation produced from the interactions of emission from millisecond pulsars with the free electrons in the interstellar medium. He can then use this scintillation information to determine various properties of the interstellar medium. He is also looking into newer pulsar timing techniques such as cyclic spectroscopy, which may provide greater insight into these properties.
